About Tilly
This is Tilly a Ringtail possum who came into care as an orphan. No one knows how she came to be found alone but she was too young to fend for herself. When she was old enough she was successfully released back into the wild.
About Ringtail Possums
Ringtail possums are smaller and more delicate than their cousins the Brushtail possum. They have small rounded ears a lighter underbelly and a distinctive white tip to their tails that is often curled in ring when at rest — hence their name.
They live in family groups and build a spherical nest from bark and leaves called a drey.
The are arboreal and are perfectly suited to life in the tree canopy rarely coming to the ground. A mother Ringtail usually has two babies at a time. They stay in her pouch for around 4 months and are weened by around 6 months. Both parents take care of the young with joeys often riding on Dad's back while mum forages.
