This beautiful masked owl has a wonderful permanent home at the raptor refuge in Kettering Tasmania.

Unfortunately his injuries was too severe to be able to be returned to the wild. Like most raptors injuries and sadly deaths are caused by collisions with vehicles, poisons, electrocution and loss of habitat. Although he could not be returned to the wild he is now a wonderful ambassador for all his feathered friends at the refuge. Photograph by Jarrah King

This beautiful image has also inspired a little girl called Nancy. Thank you to her dad Shaun Cooper for sending this through.

For weeks, Nancy and I played spot the roadside animal signs as a way to keep her awake in the car. Eventually we stopped and read one, from there, we were in love with the mission that was underway.

The next day, Nancy asked why we don't have one too, so we jumped online, picked our favourite animals and ordered. Whilst we waited, we grabbed a piece of paper and designed a frame, picked a colour (pink of course) and started building and painting.

Nancy ( 3yrs old) usually has an attention span of about 10 minutes, but it seemed understanding the cause had galvanised her, we built, painted and installed the sign in one day. To see her exhaust herself for a picture of an animal, that she will never meet was truly inspiring.

This project may have inspired a next generation wildlife warrior ❤️
